Terms of Use

These conditions govern every visit, search, and use of content on Schenectady County Criminal History. Continued use means that you accept them. If you do not agree, stop using the website.

NO FCRA USE. Schenectady County Criminal History is privately operated and has no government affiliation. Neither the site nor its advertising partners provides a service for credit, employment, insurance, tenant, or other Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) decisions. This resource helps visitors locate official Schenectady County and New York record channels. It is neither a private investigation firm nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is an independent private reference site, not a government service. It does not store official criminal files, conduct official checks, retrieve records, or submit forms for a visitor.

Its content directs readers to Schenectady County custodians, including the Sheriff, criminal courts, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Some pages also connect to outside research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

By using the website, you promise not to:

  • Break any federal, state, or local law while using this site
  • Use information you find here to stalk, harass, or threaten anyone
  • Base hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decisions on content from this site
  • Try to break into our systems or gain access you are not supposed to have
  • Run bots, scrapers, or automated tools against our pages
  • Do anything that slows the site down or blocks other people from using it

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

No information obtained here or through a linked tool may be used to stalk, threaten, harass, intimidate, or discriminate against another person. New York's Sex Offender Registration Act imposes special limits on misuse of New York State Sex Offender Registry information. The registry supports lawful public-safety awareness, never vigilantism or retaliation.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and do not produce consumer reports, credit files, or official background checks. Our partners' tools also are not offered for regulated eligibility decisions. Data from this website or a linked tool must not be used to:

  • Decide whether to hire or fire someone
  • Screen potential renters or housing applicants
  • Judge creditworthiness or set insurance premiums
  • Determine who qualifies for licenses, permits, or government programs
  • Do anything else that falls under FCRA rules

Any check for an FCRA-regulated purpose must come from an authorized, FCRA-compliant provider; this website and its tools cannot be used for that work.

5. No Legal Advice

The site provides general information, not legal advice. It cannot determine how a Schenectady County charge, conviction, warrant, or New York record-sealing rule affects a specific person. Consult a licensed New York attorney for advice.

6. No Warranties

All services and content are supplied "as is." No warranty is made that:

  • The information here is accurate, complete, or current at any given time
  • The site will stay up and running without interruptions
  • Our pages are free of errors, bugs, or security holes
  • Results from our partner search tools will be thorough or accurate

Charges, outcomes, sealing status, and agency procedures change. Gaps and delays may occur. Content here is never an official statement from a court, the Sheriff, or any government agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links lead to government sites, court portals, legal-aid resources, and outside services that we do not control. Their operators are responsible for content, privacy, prices, availability, and terms. Review those rules before using a destination.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Schenectady County Criminal History or its content partners. They may not be copied, modified, distributed, or adapted without prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for harm arising from use of the website or reliance on information found here or through a linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims caused by your use of the site or a breach of these terms, including related legal fees and costs.

11. Governing Law

New York law governs these terms. Any dispute tied to use of this website must be brought in a court located in New York.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these terms. A new version becomes effective when it is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be suspended or terminated at any time, with or without advance notice.

14. Severability

If one provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in force. The affected text will be limited only as far as needed.
